Prof. SC Handa a name synonymous with social work society at IIT Roorkee presented a lecture on time management for the junta at the institute .The lecture started with an emotional introduction to the NSS culture for the first yearites .He highlighted the achievements of the NSS chapter at IIT Roorkee since it's inception here 3 years ago and soon moved on to the topic for the day

The lecture began with an insight of what time means to us and carried on to the ways of managing it. Here are few highlights of the lecture

TIME : A commodity that everyone has been an equal share of you have 24 hrs in a day and so do I . All rules of time management are contradictory to the human nature and therefore we must learn how to control ,direct and modify our behaviour in order to managing time . We should look at time as a limited source and not a renewable one . We cannot control the amount of time we have but we can always control the way we utilize that time

Benefits of time management

1. Less stress
2. Success
3. High productivity
4. More fulfilling life

Misconceptions

work the best under pressure
2.Time management is common sense
don't have time ti manage time

Ways to actively manage your time

1.Fast reading
2.Avoid unnecessary paper work
3.Think and analyze
4. Identify your peak efficiency time
5. Fix long term/short term goals
6. Find out ways to achieve your goals
7. The ABC Priority rule
A - must do -things that need urgent attention
B -should do -things that can be done later
C -nice to do -things that could be done in free time
8. Do not set yourself up to fail. Be realistic
9. Learn to say "No" to people

Warning

The most common time management mistake that people make is not allowing for a balanced life-style. Remember that one's overall health and wellness require attention to six important life areas.

1. Physical (exercise, nutrition, sleep)
2. Intellectual (cultural, aesthetic)
3. Social (intimate and social relationships)
4. Career (school and career goal directed work)
5. Emotional (expression of feelings, desires)
6. Spiritual (quest for meaning)

Certainly you don't have to have a designated set of activities in each of these areas; but if you notice one area that you don't attend to at all, you may be ignoring an important part of yourself. For example, if you set aside time for exercise, you will improve your overall functioning and also better manage your stress. If you take time to foster your intellectual growth, you can gain new perspectives on life, experience some different kinds of pleasure, and perhaps be better able to focus on your goals.
